The Kepler family farm began back in 1909 in the Sabin Valley by Carroll, Sr. and Olive Kepler. When they retired in 1947, Carroll, Jr. and Evelyn Kepler took over. They improved the original farm by building a free stall barn and milking parlor in 1957. They started buying registered Holstein calves for their kids to show in 4-H. By the late 60’s they had developed an all registered Holstein herd. Their two sons, Ron and Kevin, wanted to join the farm. However, there was no room to expand in the Sabin Valley. As a result, in 1971, they purchased 320 acres at Ekleberry Corners. Over the course of two years, the Kepler family built a 120 cow stanchion barn, shed, and four silos and they were able to begin milking cows at the new farm in December of 1973.
In 1978, Junlyn Farms, Inc. was created to combine the cattle of Carroll, Jr. and his sons Ron and Kevin. Junlyn Farms currently owns a total of 900 acres and rents 170 additional acres to raise all the crops necessary to feed a total of 450 Holsteins. Jody Cornell has been a part of the farm for 17 years and became a partner in 2001. Julie (Kepler) Burnham came back to rejoined the farm in 1992. Kevin’s son, Luke, has also been involved in the farm since 2003. In 2008, a free stall barn was built that will hold 220 cows. Currently, we are milking 210 cows by bringing them in and out of the stanchion barn. A milking parlor will be built in the future.
